Academic Scholarships (Merit-Based Awards)
The University of Denver offers a variety of scholarships to qualified students. Academic scholarships and grants are offered through the admission process or by individual academic departments.
If your academic credentials meet various requirements, the Office of Admission will offer you a merit award in your letter of acceptance. Students are automatically considered for merit awards and do not need to submit any additional applications or essays to qualify. Merit awards range from $3,000 to full tuition. Most scholarships for first-year students are $8,000, $10,000 or $14,000 per year. Full tuition scholarships are very competitive; recipients will be notified in late March.
To be considered for departmental scholarships, simply contact the respective units to learn more about their individual requirements and award amounts.
Talent Scholarships
You may be awarded a scholarship for outstanding achievement in some particular activity. Talent scholarships are awarded for everything from music, theatre and art to athletics and forensics. When applying for a talent award, contact the coach or department directly.
Financial Aid (Need-Based Awards)
The Office of Financial Aid works with each admitted student to make DU affordable. To receive consideration for need-based funds, you must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You will also need to submit the CSS Profile if you are a first-year or transfer student entering DU on or after fall 2008. Depending on your financial circumstances, you can obtain need-based grants in addition to a merit award.
Your financial aid award may include a mix of federal, state and institutional grants, scholarships and loans. Most awards are renewable throughout your four years at DU if you continue to meet eligibility requirements.
