Health & Safety at DU

As you prepare to leave for college, you need to feel confident that you will stay safe and healthy in your new home. Here's a brief introduction to the many ways we help the members of the DU community do just that.

Safety and security

The University of Denver is committed to creating a safe and secure campus environment so our students can feel comfortable and confident as they go from class to class or their residence halls.  We believe in being proactive and preventing problems before they begin:

Officers patrol the campus and surrounding areas utilizing a variety of means including patrol vehicles, bicycles, and by foot.

We have several divisions including Patrol, Investigations, Crime Prevention, Security Services and Communications.

The Campus Safety Communications Center logs over 55,000 computer aided dispatch entries annually, most of which are due to calls for assistance or service.

Campus Safety also operates a SafeRide service, where students can receive escort to classes, dorms or facilities.  We also offer individual escorts so students can feel safe and secure while they are on campus.

Crime Prevention and safety information programs are available to any group in the community by contacting Crime Prevention Services of Campus Safety.

Health and Counseling Center

Good Health is essential for you to obtain the most benefit from participation in college life. Because the University of Denver is committed to your good health, DU has established an excellent health care program.

The DU Health and Counseling Center provides low-cost medical and mental health services to all students enrolled for academic credit (full-time or part-time, undergraduate or graduate). DU also sponsors a Student Health Insurance Plan.  The plan is designed to complement the services rendered at the Health and Counseling Center.  The Health and Counseling Center also offers many health information handouts and recommended web sites dealing with a variety of medical and mental health topics, so students can research and review on their own.
