Volunteer Activities

The following admission activities are a great way to assist our office with undergraduate recruitment efforts.

Ammi Hyde Interview:

Ammi Hyde was a beloved faculty member at DU for many years who represented many of the qualities we strive to find in prospective students. The Ammi Hyde Interview is an additional dimension for our office to evaluate students when making admission decisions. Conducted in cities throughout the country, the interview allows students to give a "voice" to their application beyond grades and test scores. Interviews are conducted in November and again in February. A team comprised of one to three members of the DU community, including faculty, staff and alumni, interview about 10 students on a given day. Each student is interviewed for approximately 20 minutes. We anticipate interviewing over 6,000 students during the 2008-2009 academic year. Your help as an interviewer would be invaluable to our office. Alumni who volunteered last year thoroughly enjoyed the experience and truly felt a part of the admission process as they met a very impressive group of young men and women interested in DU. The time commitment for this activity is typically one full Saturday or Sunday in a city near your home.

College Nights and Fairs:

Fairs are an exciting opportunity for us to provide general information to interested students and their parents. Typically hosted by a high school or college, fair participation will vary from 25 to over 200 universities and colleges. We usually attend over 250 fairs each year. As a member of the AAC, your coverage of the fair will involve hosting a display table, handing out information and answering any general questions about the University and our admission process. The time commitment is approximately two hours per fair. We will handle all the logistics of the fair, train you and provide all the information and supplies you will need. Fairs are generally held in September, October, early November, and mid spring. AAC members typically cover one fair each year in their community.

Summer Send-Off Parties:

Each summer the Alumni Office and the Parents Association organize "summer send-off" parties for the new DU students in their respective communities. They are hosted in cities throughout the country by the parents of a current DU student. Alumni are occasionally asked to host a party; however, we mostly want to extend to you an invitation to attend one of these parties in your community to help congratulate and wish the new students well as they head off to DU in the fall.
