DU's academic year consists of four quarters, each approximately 10 weeks long. The three main terms — fall, winter, and spring — make up the academic year, with an optional summer quarter and short interterm sessions. There is a six week vacation period between the fall and winter quarters and a one-week vacation between the winter and spring quarters.

The State of Colorado is in the Mountain Time zone. Also, we adjust our time for day-light savings time each year. This means we set our clocks one hour ahead in the spring and back one hour in the fall.
