Resources for High School Counselors
There are a variety of students who can find success at the University of Denver. Students who challenge themselves academically; students who seek to contribute to their community; students who flourish in environments that encourage them to think openly and enact change; students who are committed to making a difference for themselves and others.
DU typically seeks applicants with strong academic abilities, a background of contributions outside the classroom, and a willingness to explore new ideas and concepts. As the admission team, our goal is to find those whose achievements inside and outside the classroom are remarkable. We seek students who will thrive in the DU community.

The DU Admission Process
In considering an applicant for admission to DU, we take into consideration an number of factors. We review their academic achievement, including a review of their GPA, curriculum and scholarly honors. We assess their standardized test scores, considering only the highest score the student submits. We are committed to conducting a whole-person assessment, which includes evaluating a student’s extracurricular activities, essay, contributions to their community, and participation in various opportunities. Included in our whole person assessment is the review of teacher and guidance counselor recommendations. This is one of the many ways in which your assistance is extremely valuable.
We also consider the results of the Hyde Interview. Students who apply to DU are strongly encouraged to participate in our Hyde Interview program. The Hyde Interview provides the admission staff insight into the students which we may not gain from assessing grades and test scores.
Typically, students who are accepted to the University of Denver are of high academic caliber. The group of students accepted for admission for fall 2007 boasted an average GPA of 3.63, average SAT combined score of 1204 and average ACT score of 26.59.
Guidance counselors can log in to the DU website and view the status of their students, see their admission decisions, and view what they are missing to complete their application. If you are not yet in the system, take a quick minute to request access to view your students status.
